Transitional Minister

Rev. Tom Reeder

Tom Reeder began a time of transitional ministry with First Christian Church of Abilene on June 1, 2019. “Congregations must constantly evolve to meet changing realties and needs. I expect this to be a challenging ministry – an exciting opportunity to continue to move forward as a body of Christ’s disciples in Abilene,” he says.

Mr. Reeder is a graduate of Texas Christian University and of Brite Divinity School at TCU. Ordained into the ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1978, he has served congregations in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama.

In 2016, Tom retired after completing fourteen years as senior minister of FCC Granbury. A year later, he accepted a call as Interim Senior Minister at FCC Arlington, a ministry that lasted ten months.

During his tenure as Moderator of the Christian Church (DoC) in Louisiana, Tom served on the Executive Committee of Regional Ministers and Moderators. He also held regional office in Alabama and area office in the Bluebonnet Area of the Christian Church in the Southwest. He is a past member of the Board of the Juliette Fowler Homes in Dallas.

Residents of Fort Worth, Tom and Elaine have been married 46 years. They are the proud parents of four married children and eight perfect grandchildren (ages 6 through 17), all of whom live in the DFW area.

An avid follower of the sports teams of Texas Christian University, Tom is occasionally a woodworker and used to play a bit of golf, but his real passion is to serve as a pastor. “There is no greater privilege than to be trusted with the care of God’s people and to share the story of God’s love as revealed in Jesus, the Christ.”
